Epilogue

Welcome to the one before last episode of The Water Ski Podcast.

In this episode I announce the termination of this long standing project after EP100, which is scheduled to be released on May 18th, 2023. This episode was recorded in February and it will feature Fedele Luzzeri, my dad. Given that dad does not speak English, we recorded video and it will be subtitled. Audio and video will be also published on podcast, but some platform may not show the video. Therefore, the easiest way to watch this final episode is through the YouTube channel. I'd suggest to subscribe in order to receive the notifications of when the episode will premiere.

As I said in the episode, this was a great experience. Thank you to all the listeners, guests, supporters, sponsors, and everyone whom I got to meet and talk to thanks to TWSP.

Ski Hard!

EP83: Learn Show Skiing with The Ski Show Podcast

Welcome to Episode 83 of The Water Ski Podcast.

In this fun episode, Matteo interviews Matt Heilman and Adam Schaller, the hosts of The Ski Show!

Show skiing is a discipline of towed water sports that most people have either heard of or seen, whether on TV or during a live show. Admittedly, Matteo did not know much about show skiing, so he decided to ask questions to the hosts of this successful podcast. Through this episode, you will hear a lot about the skills of show skiers, rules about competitive show skiing, and the culture of the sport in general.

Enjoy it and see you next week!

EP78: Rapid Fire Questions with Dorien and Joel

Welcome back to The Water Ski Podcast for this fun Saturday episode.

Episode 78 is a rapid fire question session with Dorien Llewellyn and Joel Poland. At the end of their interviews for the podcast, Matteo asked them a series of questions, some related to skiing, some not so much. It was a decent editing effort to rearrange it all, but the result is fun and entertaining :)

Enjoy the episode and see you next Tuesday!

EP70: Waterski Pro Tour

This episode of The Water Ski Podcast is the announcement of the launch of Waterski Pro Tour!

As many of you might have heard through different interviews published in recent times, Matteo has been involved in a project aimed at redacting the former Elite Points into simpler and easier-to-understand Pro Points. This new categorization was approved by the IWWF Tournament Council, thereby sanctioning this as the new format. The next step and the major mission was to unify all these exciting tournaments under one central website and social media where to follow the feats of the best water skiers in the world. Waterski Pro Tour is to grow the sport through the promotion of professional waterski events into a unified tour.

Put waterskiprotour.com on your bookmarks, follow @waterskiprotour on Instagram, and get ready to watch Swiss Pro Slalom, the first stop of the Waterski Pro Tour!

EP68: On the Dock with The Parsons Project

Episode 68 of The Water Ski Podcast is a great roundtable chat with Carl Denis and Nick Parsons, the people behind The Parsons Project.

Since Matteo saw a new ski bearing Nick's last name, featuring a pineapple, and with Carl being involved, he has been dying to get the two in front of microphones. These two individuals are a pleasure to be around, have a ton of knowledge about ski design, construction, and the materials that are needed. However, they also never own a ski company nor were they ever involved with the whole process of creating a ski from scratch. Carl and Nick's enthusiasm for the sport and for creating product is evident as they share the story that brought The Parsons Project to light. And how cool is that they reconnected after Matteo's interview with Nick for TWSP?

Enjoy this episode as the guys narrated their process!

EP66: On the Dock with The Spraymakers

This episode of The Water Ski Podcast is a great conversation with Chris Rossi and Trent Finlayson, the hosts of Spraymakers.

As the second season of their show launches on March 15th, Matteo gathered Rossi and Trent for a conversation about podcasting, water skiing, and podcasting about water skiing!
Tune in as the three discuss how Spraymakers came about, some highlights from Season 1, a couple of sneak previews of Season 2, and the parallels between recording an episode and coaching in the boat.

Enjoy!

EP49: Transcripts, Wikipedia, and The History of Water Skiing

This episode of TWSP is a mix of an announcement and a call to action.

The announcement involves the publication of the TWSP Transcripts, an initial and enormously time-consuming undertaking of transcribing as many TWSP interviews as possible. Beyond the honorable goal of making these interviews accessible to the hearing-impaired population, the goal is to create citable documents for people to use on any report of water skiing.

Here comes the call to action. Wikipedia is a project editable by everyone and possibly the most honorable and interesting experiment ever done on the internet. However, in order to add information, one has to cite sources. Written resources (such as transcripts) are much easier to search and cite, so this should be the job of volunteers easy. Matteo's wish is that people join forces and continue edit Wikipedia with entries about water skiing.

Finally, Matteo would like to thank everyone who has already helped with transcribing the first five episodes so far!

Enjoy and spread the knowledge about the sport! Reach out if you are willing to help and do not really know where to start :)

EP34: The Waterski Broadcasting Company

Episode 34 is with Tony Lightfoot, John Waldron, and Vincent Stadlbaur, who together are The Waterski Broadcasting Company.

In this episode Matteo probes them to talk about the past, present, and future of water ski webcasting, which inevitably touched on how video can promote the sport of water skiing.

EP31: A Tribute to José Castelli

This episode is a tribute to José Castelli, one of the oldest and most experienced coaches on the Italian water ski scene. He sadly passed away on April 18th. I had the privilege of skiing with him for three years in the mid-2000s, an experience that formed my coach and I immensely. This is my own, personal tribute to José.

EP29: Three Drills to Learn the Slalom Course

This episode of The Water Ski Podcast was originally posted exclusively on Swerve on February 4, 2020.

In this Dock Time episode Matteo share three useful drills and some tips on how to learn the slalom course. Whether you are a free skier ready to tackle the 6 buoys or an experienced slalom skier who wants to introduce someone to the course, hopefully you will find these tips useful :)

EP28: Learn (some more) Water Skiing with Coop Diddy

Coop Diddy is back!

This impromptu episode was recorded just a few days ago, after Coop bombarded Matteo with more questions about water ski intricacies. "We should have this conversation in front of the mic" Coop said, and within 3 minutes the two were recording.

By the way, have you checked out Water Ski Bits? Coop has a bit on there too ;-)

In this episode, Coop Diddy asks Matteo more specific questions about the water ski world, informed by the knowledge about the sport he has been acquiring :)

Follow this second episode as Coop and Matteo ramble and untangle:
  • A little update on how TWSP has been going since EP11
  • Trends of Top20 skiers in the World (see BOS post here)
  • What made Men Slalom so competitive in recent years
  • Deliberate practice and skiing in different conditions
  • Big Dawg and Senior categories, including former Pros making the switch
  • Jeff Rogers being the first guy to run 41off at 36mph and 34mph
  • Are 34mph and 36mph two different sports altogether?
  • Coop's first experience of riding in the boat for Matteo
  • Safety and funnies in water ski photo shooting
  • Shoutouts to Coop's fans Freddie Winter and Dane Mechler
  • The effects of COVID on the water ski community
  • …and more!!!

If you are new to the sport, hopefully you'll learn something out of this conversation.
If you are already an experienced and knowledgeable skier, you'll definitely find this discussion amusing and, possibly, resembling the ones you often have about trying to explain our sport to non-skiers.

Follow Coop on Instagram and let him know what you think about the episode ;-)

EP11: Learn Water Skiing with Coop Diddy

Welcome to this very alternative (and quite explicit) episode of The Water Ski Podcast

In this episode, Coop Diddy asks Matteo a lot of the questions people want to ask about skiing. A lot of people have tried water skiing on some combos at least once, and Coop is no exception. In fact, Coop even managed to "kick one off"!

Follow this entertaining episode as Coop and Matteo ramble and untangle:
  • Some basics about the slalom course
  • The idea of a reverse course
  • What "41 off" is off of and general rope lengths
  • Right vs. Left foot forward
  • Whether water skiing is an extreme sport
  • How to promote the sport
  • And a lot more!

If you are new to the sport, hopefully you'll learn something out of this conversation.
If you are already an experienced and knowledgeable skier, you'll definitely find this discussion amusing and, possibly, resembling the ones you often have about trying to explain our sport to non-skiers.
